It comes as no surprise that Cancun is one of the top destinations for a bachelorette party. You’ve got everything you need from bright blue waters, white sandy beaches, relaxing spa treatments, your Mayan culture, tacos, more tacos, and a unique nightlife.
Getting There
Fly in with all your girls into Cancun International Airport Cancun, MX (CUN) and book a transportation service ahead of time to take you to your Airbnb for a 25 minute care ride into the Hotel Zone. We booked 2 vans so one can head to the grocery store and pick up some snacks and liquor (make sure the bride is in this van) while the other van goes straight to the Airbnb to decorate for the big surprise. The driver will wait for 30 minutes while you grab what you need.

Airbnb at a Resort in the Hotel Zone
Conveniently located at the Oleo Boutique Resort in the Hotel Zone, this gorgeous penthouse was found through Airbnb and slept 12 girls comfortably in 4 bedrooms and 7 beds. The balcony had a beautiful view of both the lagoon and the ocean and served as the stage for photo shoots and morning yoga practices. There was an option for all inclusive food and drink, but for our group it wasn’t needed because were were plenty of restaurants and convenience stores nearby. Our night in after a day of travel, we opted for in-home cooking where a couple of wonderful cooks came and served us tacos straight from our own kitchen.
The Surprise
Decorate every inch of the Airbnb with balloons and gold confetti that you can buy as a set on Amazon. To give a personal touch, print out pictures of the bride with her loved ones, and tape them on all the walls so everyone can go down memory late together. To add a bit of fun and lots of laughs, we didn’t want the bride-to-be miss the groom too much, so we printed out a life sized version of him and put him in front of the decorate photo op section we made out of garland, balloons, and a banner. Lastly, don’t forget party favors for the guest. Etsy is your best friend for personalized items.
Must haves for the swag bags:
- Bride/Squad Caps to protect your beautiful faces from the sun.
- Personalized stick-on tattoos of the bride’s face. Feel free to stick them wherever your heart desires.
- Custom made crop tops with the bride’s name, bachelorette hashtags, custom themes and quotes.
- A tumbler to keep your drinks from spilling in the pool or the ocean.
- Home-made hair ties that say “To have and to your hold…your hair back”
- Personalized shot glasses.
Tours and Activities
Private Boat Party to Isla Mujeres
Take a day trip on a private boat and sail to the tiny island of Isla Mujeres where you can enjoy quieter beaches away from the flood of the tourists. Our tour included our very own captain and bartender. Once we got to the island we were greeted with tequila shots and a taco buffet bar. There are options to customize your tour by adding snorkeling or shopping excursions. Our group took full advantage of the low key ambiance and took photo ops with the swings and hammocks on the ocean. On the ride back, we enjoyed views of the gorgeous sunset and as it got dark, had our own little dance party!
Take a tour of Chichen Itza
Dive into the Mayan culture by visiting this archaeological site and city. It’s worth while to take a private tour with a archaeologist because there are so many nuances about the site that you will surely miss if you don’t. At the center of the site is the El Castillo temple in which you’ll learn about how the location and position are perfectly aligned with the sun and the important Mayan calendar dates. They were highly advanced in the calendar system and knew that we had 365 days in a year. They also though of certain numbers and dates as lucky (or unlucky) which you’ll notice in the architecture all around the site. Beat the crowds and the afternoon heat by book an early tour. There’s a bus that will pick you up from your Cancun hotel. It is about a 3 hour drive, so if you were out partying the night before, the bus ride will be a nice nap. I advise bringing an umbrella and some sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun. Also the bus ride, is air-conditioned but can sometimes get really cold if all you’re wearing is shorts and a t-shirt, so bring a jacket.
ATV through the jungle and zip line into a cenote
A trip to Cancun can’t be complete without an adventure through the jungle and zip-lining into a cenote. A cenote is a natural pit that results from limstone bedrock, exposing groundwater from underneath. There are said to be thousands located within the Yucatan Peninsula. Some yet to still be discovered. Cenotes were sacred spots used by Mayans practically and spiritually. The ate is fresh and will appear a clear or a nice emerald green color. There are many tours in which you can ATV, zip-line and viste the cenote all in one. Here is a link to the tour we went on which included hotel pick-up, lunch, and really funny, friendly, and knowledgeable staff: www. cancunandrivieramaya.com/tours/extreme-adventure.asp
What to Eat
Fine dining at Benazuza
Benazuza was my favorite dining experience here in Cancun. Though they had a pre-fixe menu, they accommodated our needs for the vegans and vegetarians in our group, you just need to tell them ahead of time. We had our own private room with a nice view. If you look closely at the pictures, you might notice that some ingredients aren’t what they appear to be. Hint: The “cherry” and the “lime” are wonderful surprises. There are a number of surprises in the 15 course meal but I don’t want to spoil any more of it.
Restaurants with stunning lagoon views: Porfirio’s and Navio’s
Make sure to reserve outdoor seating for a big group because the atmosphere and ambiance next to the water is amazing. The view of the lagoon was a beautiful setting for another great tasting meal.
Nightlife
Coco Bongo
The night at Coco Bongo had to be the best night yet, or dare I say the best night of our lives. We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into, only that it was going to be a “unique” experience. I didn’t know if it was a dance club or a musical performance. It ended up being so much more than that. There were acrobats, celebrity impersonators, and live bands playing out your favorite scenes from all your favorite movies. It was NONSTOP entertainment. I thought I was going to be watching a cheesy performance, but I was very wrong. When you are in Cancun, this is a must-see.
Love your post! This was one epic bachelorette party! I’ve been to Cancun a few times with my husband. We never did the Mayan ruins tour because of how long it was. I’m sure it’s well worth it though! Coco Bongo is a blast, especially for brides! Also, when did you go? It was safe to venture out on your own for grocery shopping and whatnot? I’ve only done all inclusives there and never left the resort without a guide.
Thank you! We went in August and totally felt safe everywhere we went. Especially as women we had to be on high alert for each other in general. There was a lot of us so as long as we stuck together I felt safe. I’m glad you and your husband had a great time! You should definitely check the the Mayan ruins next time!
